TIP to help cut roses

Ready to know the *secret* to keep your beautiful roses fresh and alive LONGER?! . .

Buy best quality first.  Gently pinch the top of the steam, just where it connects to the roses bud.  It should be firm.   The petals should all be free of any brown or bruises.

If possible, bring fresh water to transport them home in.  Also, if possible, always buy from a refrigerated space
*extra tip* If unable to put roses into vase right away, store in fridge.  Even for an hour while you get things ready.

Now for what you will need:
- Vase      *I like clear glass vases with a wide base and tall thinner neck, but be sure to keep away from natural light (windows) and heat. Be sure vase is freshly cleaned with warm soapy water.

- sharp cutting knife     *in a pinch I use very sharp scissors, although scissors tend to squish/smash the steam as it cuts.

- Plant Food packet, if one cane with roses.

- Soda Water/Club Soda  *Room temp
- lemon lime flavored soda (7up,Sprite,Sierra Mist)    *Room Temp

-A nice counter space or table to work on, and a trash can, or bag for clippings

READY:

1.   Put about half the packet of flower food in clean vase along with enough Soda water to fill vase up about 3-5"

2. One rose at a time, cut steam at 45degree angle.  Be sure to remove any foliage near bottom.  I prefer to remove all foliage for a cleaner, rose only look.

3. Quickly place rose into vase.

4. Continue same with each rose.  I like to vary the height slightly so its not all the same.   *Also, you may keep in mind, in a few days you can recut the ends so keep enough length available.

5. Fill vase with 7up.  I fill to the where the base becomes the neck.

** This method has made my roses last between 10-12days!    I add a touch of room temp soda every few days and sometimes recut the stems after several days. ****

DIY Wall Art for Master Bedroom

As you will see over the next several posts/months, Im on a decorating kick.  I am loving the fun DIY projects, that give the home very personal touches

Today I will tell you about my fun wall art  pieces:)

This is a stretch canvas I had here at the house.   I used basic acrylic craft paint and painted " 0 7" and then " 1 9" for my husband and I's wedding anniversary.  The month and day.   Then decided to add the year and our last name.  I was inspired by a post I saw on line that was only the 4 numbers.  I like the extra touch and added the color in back.

NEXT:
I did wooden letters, with a lovenote decoupage and then set on a plain white canvas.  These are our first name initials: N and S and then a separate canvas with our last name initial R

I first painted the wood letters black and then covered them with a love note.

and I attached basic ribbon to the back so they will hang:)

I will post pictures when they are in our room, as we are redecorating over the next few weeks.   You will LOVE my upcoming post of my DIY dresser/nightstands that Im painting   . . .

Oceanside Ca secret treasure

On a recent trip to beautiful Oceanside California, I had the pleasure of visiting the weekly Farmer's Market. I quickly came across a very well decorated booth with such beautiful and unique jewelry.
Ruth Deakins has the most amazing pieces, TypeWritterTransformations.   She has antique type writters, in which she hand places your letter into a necklace, keychains and much more.   She is not only a very kind and artistic woman, but a very generous and creative person.   I bought a necklace
And was given this cool card to go along with it.
I also received
This beauty

Her cards are even amazing

Her booth was so beautiful and I couldnt wait to share her with everyone possible.

Please visit her if your EVER in Oceanside or email/call to purchase.

Her daughter also has a new company worth mentioning:

Ruth, Thank you again for everything. My necklace is a treaure not only for the memories but as an admiration to your amazing work, beautiful pieces but also how very kind and generous you are. I wish you the very best!!

A pick me up

Even during our trials and very difficult times in life, there is hope and faith.

Exodus 15:2 The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
